With deep-rooted significance in Chinese mythology and history, the dragon, particularly the five-clawed dragon, was reserved for the emperor and the nobility, believed to be descendants of this mythical creature.

Crafted from gold-plated solid sterling silver, this pen intricately portrays an exuberant five-clawed Chinese dragon proudly standing amidst a backdrop of small steam clouds. Contrary to Western associations, the dragon in Chinese culture is more linked to water, steam, and clouds. Set against a red background, symbolizing auspiciousness, the figure is further enhanced by colored enameling and a finely etched dragon scale texture visible beneath semi-transparent enamel. To accentuate its auspicious power and nobility, the Imperial Dragon featured on the barrel is adorned with a precious red ruby in its eye. Zoom 727

I was very lucky to find a Zoom 727 with Pen Venture. It’s similar to the iconic 707 but it’s slightly larger form makes it more usable for daily use. It’s none the worse for that and scooped an if Design award in 2004. Bizarrely, it’s discontinued now! Get it while you can from Pen Venture. My thanks to them for their great service.

Skipped so much I had to replace the nib unit with parts from my storage. Quite disappointing. The cap now screws on, I preferred the slip cap. It's faster. It's working now but I won't be spending any more money on gravitas.

The Vac 2

The Vac 2 is a refinement of both the Monster and the previous Gravitas vac fillers. This is a very robust, beautifully balanced writer that will bring pleasure to even the most particular purchaser. The filling system holds just the right quantity of ink. Long writing sessions are a breeze without the risk of having ink sit in the pen for extended periods. I have used this pen extensively since it arrived and have found it to be consistent and reliable. The nib is smooth and flows evenly with the lightest of touches. I prefer this pen over the monster because of its size and balance. The Vac 2 becomes an extension of my hand, allowing me to forget its presence and locus entirely, focusing on what I am writing.

Substantial, reliable, and smooth

The Gravitas Vac 2.0 is an amazing tool for handwriting. The nib is smooth, distinct, and reliable, and it has some weight due to its durable materials, black aluminium/aluminum and ultem, the perfect combination of a tool which will survive most of us, still functioning if the internal vacuum piston system is cared for. I have enjoyed this fountain pen for seven days and I am pleased to say it is one of my better ones, and it is fun to use. I recommend it.

(Emy was correct: The nib has great flow, about six drops of ink will automatically flow from the nib after I have just filled it, after that no problems; tissue paper or the ink bottle under the nib until that happens is recommended, other than that: an excellent fountain pen.)
