Description

Visconti Crystal Dream is the latest revamped version of the famous Bronze Age Homo Sapiens. Made from the same resilient, flame-proof and slightly hygroscopic basaltic lava from the Etna volcano mixed in with resin. The exclusive features of the Crystal Dream are inspired by the automotive and aeronautical industry. See through windows are showcased in the barrel of the pen and also in the section ring, Crystal Dream Bronze Age features also the trademark "Double Reservoir" option.

This pen comes equipped with the rose gold plated Visconti - 18k Gold oversized nib. You can choose the nib from the 5 sizes available: Extra Fine, Fine, Medium, Broad and Stub 1.3mm. The 18k gold nib is made in house by Visconti and offer a true and original writing experience.

Generous ink capacity is available with the Visconti patented vacuum Power Filler. This filling system is made entirely from titanium resisting ink corrosion. The weight of this pen is well distributed making it comfortable for extended writing session. This pen can't be accidentally uncapped , it features the Hook Safe Lock trademark capping mechanism. Customise your Visconti with the magnetised My Pen system. Choose between name initials, natural stones or zodiac signs to swap the Visconti logo coin on the finial.

Yes. Do it.

Having second thoughts on a Visconti? Don't. Pen venture is the place to get this pen. Pleasant surprises, perfectly tuned nib, what more can you want? Keeping it short and simple. It's not don't, it's do.

An incredible grail-level pen that also makes for a perfect daily driver

Before I review the pen, I want to compliment Pen Venture's extraordinary customer service. Emy and his team went above and beyond in making sure to test the pen and adjust it to my specifications before sending it promptly to me. I also really appreciate the hand written note from Emy.

Onto the pen: The Visconti Homo Sapiens Crystal Dream is a breathtaking work of art in both form and function. It is a beautiful pen with it's transparent ink windows, matte black lava structure with bronze accent rings, and of course the iconic archway clip. I love that I was able to get my initials in a matching gold magnetic finial insert as well. While looking different than the typical cigar-shaped glossy resin pens that make up the majority of the grail pen world, this Visconti shows unique beauty of its own.

The 18k gold nib in medium writes smoothly and responsively and has a nice wet flow which makes it a joy to write with. No slow starts nor skipping. No need to adjust grip, angle, nor pressure to the pen. It just writes perfectly every time with the softest and buttery smooth touch. Also, the lava resin section is extremely grippy and well sized making the pen very comfortable even in long writing sessions.

Underlying its beauty, the Crystal Dream also has the rugged materials and engineering to function as a perfect daily driver pen. The lava resin and solid bronze exterior of the pen are extremely durable and scratch resistant. I love that the dual power filling system holds a gigantic total of 3.69 ml of ink in it's two reservoirs which will last for a long time despite the nib's wet flow. The bottom reservoir also seals itself from the top section reservoir meaning that it won't burp ink into the cap when flying in an airplane like most fountain pens. Also, I like that the cap only takes a 1/5 turn to uncap yet still keeps the nib wet and flowing between uses.

So, in summary, I love that the Visconti Homo Sapiens Crystal Dream can function as my pinnacle grail pen yet also as my everyday carry daily driver pen. None of my other pens give me such a luxurious writing experience while also providing resistance to the bumps, scratches, and drops encountered in daily life.

One of a kind and a must have in your collection

Where do I start, this is also my first Visconti fountain pen, and what an impression it leaves behind. There's something about the lava and bronze that leaves you captivated. The demonstrator window enhances what is already amazing about this pen. In my case, it's inked with Liberty's Elysium, and the blue and bronze go so well together. It's quickly become a favorite, and for reference, my other favorite pen is the Sailor 1911L.
The 18K nib is smooth and puts a very good amount of ink down. For reference, is not as smooth as the Pilot Custom 823 but I believe that's a good thing, I can still feel the nib on the paper.
I did lots of research and read plenty of stories on Reddit about Visconti's quality control and that's why there was only one place I could trust. I was not going to take any chances and leave it to fate. Pen Venture and especially Emy have made the biggest difference when it comes to this pen and the experience behind it. I had the peace of mind that my pen was going to be tested and taken care of, so this is for anyone thinking about it, this is the right place with the best price and the best experience.
I left some pictures for everyone to see and have a chance to love this pen, this is the longest review I have left on a pen btw. Also, as it is shown in the picture, the Fine nib writes mostly like a Medium nib for those who use a Japanese brand like me. In the future, I will most likely try a new Visconti pen with an extra fine which is probably close to a Fine for Japanese brands.

Emy again, thank you so much for the feedback throughout the entire process, and for the personal touch you always leave behind in each package.

Extraordinary Pen for special Moments

This is my first Visconti Pen. I've had a couple of days now to test it in every way I wanted and here are my thoughts about it.

A beautiful Pen with a lot of outstanding features. The Material of vulcanic basalt isn't just a gimmick it does feel unique. It's hard to describe but I like it very much.

The Nib is not exaggeratedly large but big enough to feel special. It works with almost every grip I tried on this Pen without any problem. I can't speak for every Pen but the Nib on mine (Size F) writes very smooth without any complaints whatsoever.

The double reservoir stores enough ink for a lot of writing while being safe for travel and the big (almost like on a demonstrator pen) ink window looks beautiful without taking away anything of the unique material that makes the homo sapiens series special. I especially like it because I don't have to unscrew the safety rod every time I write thanks to the secondary reservoir.

The capping system feels secure like a screw cap but is easy and quick to uncap almost like a slip Cap. Very enjoyable

The Pen is rather large and heavy. I wouldn't consider it an everyday carry Pen but that only undelines my impression of the Pen overall. It's a special Pen for special occasions and I enjoy it very much.

Beautiful Pen

The pen is beautiful and the material feels soft to the touch and very pleasant to hold. I got a B nib and I love how it writes, very smooth and juicy. The customer service was excellent and I'm very happy with my new pen.

If the Monster and the Vac 1.0 had a Love Child...

...this would be it! To be completely honest, the Monster's DNA is clearly the dominant factor in this creation! As a matter of fact, it might be more accurate to call this pen the Baby Monster, instead of "Vac 2.0". There are only a few characteristics of the Vac 1.0 that were passed on, such as having an Ultem ink window on the secondary ink reservoir. Speaking of which, shouldn't the "Primary" ink reservoir be the one that connects directly to the nib unit? The back up, or reserve reservoir should be the "Secondary" reservoir, since it feeds the primary reservoir, not the nib unit, but...whatever. Other characteristics inherited from the Vac 1.0 are the conical finials on the cap and barrel, as well as a #6 size nib. Ink capacity of the Vac 2.0 is more than the Vac 1.0, but less than the Monster; at 4.5 ml, it's more than enough to get you through an all night session of writing, maybe even all week!
The nib...unlike other Gravitas nibs, doesn't have a breather hole, and the slit is longer. The metal also may be thinner than other Gravitas #6 nibs, which in combination with the longer slit, may give this nib a bit more flexibility. My nib is very smooth! Ink flow is a little bit less than the Monster's, but more than the Vac 1.0's, and is consistent and predictable with Pelikan 4001 Royal Blue ink.
Fun fact: the ink uptake hole (where ink goes into the pen when you fill it) is located on the underside of the feed, pretty close to where the feed disappears into the grip section. It's like that with almost every fountain pen that's designed to suck ink out of an ink well/bottle. The only one I know of that has the hole way forward toward the tip of the nib is the Lamy 2000. How does that affect you? The farther the nib sticks out from the grip section, the higher up that hole sits from the nib's tip, and the more ink needs to be in the bottom of the ink well to make sure that the pen sucks up ink, not air. The #6 nib sticks out about 7/8" (22mm), the #8 nib (of the Monster) sticks out about 17/16" (27mm). So, unless you plan on transferring your favorite ink into tall, thin ink bottles (like Robert Oster ink bottles), use an ink miser or ink sample bottle, or get creative with an ink syringe, the smaller sized nib of the Vac 2.0 allows you to get more ink out of your bottle before the rest becomes unreachable. With a little patience, practice, and an ample supply of paper towels, you can fill almost any piston filler or vac filler with an ink syringe as if the pen was an eyedropper filler, as long as you can remove the grip section and squirt the ink directly into the barrel. Some pens won't let you remove the grip section, but you can unscrew the nib unit, which will also give you direct access to the ink chamber(s). Vac fillers are more difficult to fill like that, because the piston has to be pushed all the way forward, and then retracted just far enough to allow ink to flow around and behind the piston to fill the ink chamber. If you were to fill it with the piston all the way in the back, you'd just expel all of the ink as soon as you push the piston forward again.
I love that Vac 2.0 has a second ink window, which lets me know when I need to open up the big ink chamber to allow ink to fill the little in chamber. I love the smaller nib, which allows me to better access to ink in bottles that are less than half full. I love how smooth the nib writes, and that the line width is actually pretty close to the nominal "Fine" standard (0.3mm, +/- 0.1mm). I love that the cap and pen body are now mated with titanium threaded parts, with ACME threads, so there isn't the constant feeling of cross threading the Ultem plastic, like every time I put the cap back on my Vac 1.0. I'm still careful whenever I screw the cap on any of my pens, regardless of material or brand, but I'm extra careful with threads on my non metal pens.
So, if like the Vac 1.0, you're going to love Vac 2.0, because I believe all of the Vac 1.0's shortcomings were addressed. If you thought you might like the Monster, but thought it's too big or pricey for you, the Vac 2.0 is the perfect fit. Still more ink capacity than most fountain pens, including many dedicated eyedropper pens, yet almost the same size as a regular full size pen. Robust construction, high quality materials, flawless fit and finish.

Love this ink!

It is a beuatiful color and seems to work well in the pens I have tried out. No issues, and it has the waterproof qualities I was looking for.

Diamine - Desert Rose | Exclusive Pen Venture | - Bottled Ink 80 ml
Garo

Desert Rose is a beautiful, elegant ink with a soft dusty rose color that stands out from the typical reds and purples. I currently have it inked in my Laban, and it’s a perfect match. The ink has excellent flow, looks sophisticated on the page, and gives the pen a unique personality. It’s a color that always catches my eye when I flip through my notebook.

Diamine - Neptune Blue | Exclusive Pen Venture | - Bottled Ink 80 ml
Garo

A beautiful saturated blue that strikes a great balance between professional and vibrant. It has excellent flow, good lubrication, and behaves well on quality paper. If you enjoy rich blue inks without venturing into teal territory, this is a fantastic exclusive.

Simple but worth having. It makes maintenance much easier and fits the Vac 2.0 perfectly. It’s one of those accessories you may not use often, but when you need to disassemble the pen for cleaning or servicing you’ll be glad you have it.
