The pinnacle of Namiki's craftsmanship within the illustrious Emperor Collection, and boasting a grand size No.50 (Jumbo) 18k gold nib, reminiscent of the large Maki-e fountain pens crafted nearly a century ago, this pen also features an ink stopping function (Japanese shut-off valve) and a meticulously shaped ebonite body.
Inspired by the mythical creature, the Kylin, this pen exudes a captivating and intricate appearance, blending elements of a dragon's head, antlers, horse hoofs, an oxtail, wolf's forehead, and a vibrant chest. The Kylin is revered for its liveliness, intelligence, and, above all, its gentle yet courageous nature that repels evil. According to ancient beliefs, encountering a Kylin is an auspicious sign, symbolizing serenity and prosperity.
Despite its fearsome appearance, the Kylin only punishes wrongdoers, treating the grass with care as it walks, never harming a living thing. It possesses the ability to walk on water and nourishes itself without consuming flesh. Legend has it that the Kylin manifests in regions governed by wise and benevolent leaders, even in the confines of a home. While inherently gentle, it transforms into a fierce protector when a pure-hearted individual is threatened, unleashing flames from its mouth and displaying formidable powers that vary in each tale.
The Namiki Maki-e fountain pens epitomize the fusion of mastery and spirit passed down from their predecessors, embodying the essence of PILOT's heritage. As one of the foremost brands in Maki-e fountain pens, they convey the rich tapestry of Japanese traditional culture.
The creation of a stunning Maki-e piece involves a meticulous process of lacquering, drawing, sprinkling, and polishing. This arduous cycle is repeated numerous times to achieve a flawless and exquisite result. Some Maki-e fountain pens require over three months of dedicated craftsmanship, undergoing the meticulous process up to 130 times.
In keeping with tradition, this pen utilizes an eyedropper filling system, further enhancing its allure and connection to the art of fine writing.
