Gravitas - Flagship | Alu-Bronze

The Flagship has a relatively unique shape in the fountain pen world. Not only is there no clip (like all other Gravitas fountain pens), but both ends of the pen look very similar. Yes, one end is slightly shorter than the other, and also has a laser etched Gravitas logo on it, but that's hard to see from ten feet away...it just looks like a brass colored mini-torpedo.
But, strangely enough, I somehow always get the pen in my hands the "right way", with the "pen" in my right hand, and the "cap" in my left hand. The cap does NOT post, by the way.
Once you get past the unusual shape of the pen, it writes in a way that's virtually indistinguishable from any of the "heavy metal" Sentry pens, i.e., steel, brass, copper. I love hefty pens, and this one fits that bill perfectly. The nib unit is the same as similar sized cartridge/converter pens, and can be unscrewed from the grip section for more detailed cleaning. Size and threading is based on JoWo #6 nib units, but I've had no reason to try to substitute a genuine JoWo unit, because the Gravitas made nib and feed assembly do their job just as well as a JoWo unit, which is to say nearly perfectly.
The Alu-Bronze seems to be a little more corrosion resistant than regular bronze or brass, i.e., it takes a little longer to develop a patina. Good for you, if you want to keep your pen looking brand new for longer. If you want to give your pen that lived-in look, you'll just have to write longer with it, and put all of your hard work, sweat, and creative energy into your writing, and it'll get that lived-in look more quickly. And a polishing cloth, or some Brasso (R) brass polish on a soft cloth will get it to look brand new again, so you can start all over ;-).
Love this pen. Won't buy another one, because it's unlikely to break in my lifetime, replacement nibs are available, so are standard international cartridges and converters, and I've got a lifetime supply of bottled ink on my shelves.
