Smooth, Stylish, Substantial

This is my first Leonardo fountain pen, and after one week of journaling and cursive practice using it, I can confidently say it won’t be my last.

I had initially expected the Aluminia to be compact and light, akin to a Lamy Al-Star with an Italian twist. What I got instead was something closer to a work of art, with a more intricate look, shape and feel in hand that invited further attention and appreciation.

The aluminium of the pen’s body is not brushed in a straight line (like the brushed-steel Lamy 2000), but in subtle curves that give it a wavy shine as you rotate it in the right light.

The amount of material used for the pen’s construction is surprisingly high - when unscrewed from the section, I was amazed to see how thick the wall of the barrel was. So while it is aluminium, there’s so much of it that the pen feels satisfyingly hefty. The cap’s teflon inner sleeve is also a material choice I haven’t seen in similar-priced pens from other manufacturers, but one I welcome for its role in ink dry-out prevention and scratch protection during daily use.

The shape of the section adds to the comfort of the writing experience, and while it did take a bit of patience initially for the Neptune Blue ink to flow properly to the tip of the pen, I ended up getting along with the Elastic Extra Fine nib very well. It’s more wet than I had expected a nib of this size to be, and that also results in a thicker line (closer to Western Fine), but it’s very usable with the nib placed upside-down if thinner-lined notes are desired.

Writing with this pen continues to be a delight every time I choose it for daily notes and scribbles. Cool and smooth to the touch, with a solid presence and a bouncy nib that adds a bit of extra personality to each written letter, it keeps me wanting to write more.

Awesome limited fountain pen

The Leonardo fountain pen Aluminia (I purchased the Rhodium trim with a steel nib) is a wonderful pen. Its shimmer and brushed appearance are reminiscent of 1970s our 1980s pens like the Waterman CF "Moiré" or the brushed Cross Apogee. Its weight is excellent, neither too heavy (like the Faber-Castell E-motion Silver...) nor too light. Its EF nib is a little thicker and wetter than others, but this allows for the use of particule, shimmering, and shinning inks, which are well suited to this great pen. Great work from Leonardo and as always, quick shipping from Emy and very serious cheking. Well done !

I am glad I got this pen. It is beautiful. It is a great size and weight. I purchased the elastic extra fine with the gold trim. The nib is great and writes smoothly. Emy and Pen Venture did a great job getting this pen to me. Thank you.

Smooth Writer

I got the Momento Zero Aluminia in Extra Fine. It's a very nice pen! Writing is super smooth and it also feels great in my hand (not too heavy). Only minor complaint is that it writes thick for an Extra Fine (it writes more like a Western Fine).

Delivery was super quick from Pen Venture to the U.S. once the pen became available.

Complete pile of shite

Bought a Gravitas Monster. Kept in pen sleeve in padded case. Used carefully. Treated carefully. Filled twice. Noticed ink all over my hand. No obvious problem. When home I emptied the pen and notice a thin crack in the barrel at the "turning knob" end, just before the aluminium. Now unusable. Ink seeping out. Complete waste of money. Complete crap. Either desire flaw, or poor materials or both. Watch out. Will never buy another Gravitas POS, nor from this retailer again.

Quality engineering

I skipped the original aluminum Monster mainly due to fear of slipperiness. I've had issues with other aluminum pens and I seem to recall multiple reviewers mentioning such with the aluminum Monster. I heard no such complaints for the stone washed titanium one so I eventually went for it. I'm glad I did!

The large broad nib is silky smooth, the matte finish comfortably grippy, the vacuum filling system well made and the ink capacity very impressive. The body is nice and thick and feels suitably hefty. I also like the look of the matte finish. Matte doesn't seem to be quite as common in fountain pens as all kinds of shiny finishes (which can obviously be great too!) so it's nice whenever it's an option.

I'm not used to pens without any kind of roll stop but at least on my shall we say busy desk the Monster is quite safe from falling. I'm not sure if the Ultem in this one is supposed to be sturdier than the acrylic in some other versions or not but better be safe in any case.

Gravitas Vac 2

The construction of the Vac 2 is flawless. The textures of the materials and it's simple lines display an elegant beauty. The large steel nib delivers a pleasant writing experience and also provides a bit of flex.

Amazing Pen! Gravitas makes one of the best piston fillers out there. I dont keep the nib and normally use the pen for coustom flex nibs with Jowo #6 compatible nib units. So, i really cant speak on the nib. However, this pen is just built with high quality components. The weight, feel, and overall aesthetics are unmatched. You wont find better at this price point.

Platinum Sansui - Smooth Operator

I recently acquired the Platinum Maki-e Sansui pen in a Medium nib. The Pen Venture team was kind enough to carefully inspect and tune this pen before sending it on to me. Many thanks for that. It writes very smoothly and with a steady flow of ink. The Medium nib is my favorite nib configuration from the Platinum brand. The line width is nice and thin and always writes consistently right of the box. This lovely Maki-e pen was no different. I highly recommend it.
