Description

Gravitas - Dinkey is a combination of its pocket-sized form scaled down to that of a quark. Refined and practical - the Dinkey consists in the sum of lessons learned throughout the years from previous models of Gravitas and brings out the very best in design, choice of materials and craftsmanship.

The fountain pen is small, portable, and handy, placing emphasis on the material from which it is made. It showcases a unique range of materials that, up until now, have not been offered in the Gravitas lineup. The Cupronickel used for the Dinkey is a special alloy highly resistant to corrosion, used primarily in the nautical industry for propellers, shafts and hulls for high end boats. Despite its high copper content, cupronickel is silver color.

The Dinkey inner cap comes lined with Delrin in order to prevent scratches from posting, the section is made from cupronickel alloy as well, sporting an o-ring at the threading point with the barrel and the section is threaded in order to be compatible with a Jowo size #6 nib unit. (standard steel Jowo nib unit)

The writing point of the Dinkey is a Gravitas steel nib, available in extra fine, fine, medium, and broad and elastic fine options, powered by a generic plastic feeder. Accompanied by a custom-designed plastic tube, this fountain pen is a perfect blend of style and functionality in a slim and small size.

Elevate your writing journey with the refined craftsmanship of the Entry fountain pen.

Perfect Pocket Pen

The Dinkey is my favorite pocket-sized model from Gravitas’ current line. I prefer it to the Quark and the Pocket for EDC. It’s an excellent pocket pen; beautiful and weighty, easy to maintain, writes smooth… the cupronickel material is gorgeous. It’s bright and polished, and the nickel coloring is dominant, but catch it in the right light, and copper tones will shine through. Truly eye-catching.

Great First Impressions

This Dinkey has treated me well. I've been carrying it on me for a few days now and am quite happy with it. I got an extra fine nib and it writes pretty wet, if you like a regular fine then go with the extra fine. Regardless, the nib seems well tuned. Not once yet have I seen it dry start.
The pen feels great in the hands, pleasure to use. The only thing I find that slows me down is when I post the cap, sometimes I don't push it down firm enough- since it doesn't screw or snap into place- and the cap gets loose as I try to start writing. Not a big deal for me personally, but one might consider the Quark to avoid that (or just stop handling it like a pansy like I should).
All in all, this is a very solid pen and a relatively lower cost but high quality option if you want a fancy pocket sized writing instrument. If you'll excuse the poor handwriting, I also took an image of some scribbling I did to give an idea of what the nib writes like.
Shoutouts to Ben for being such a creative designer and engineer, GRMA.

Your friendly neighbourhood Emy

This is an update/addendum after the "cap mishap', specifically to thank Emy for being so helpful, kind and efficient. The speed and adequacy of having the pen picked up, fixed and sent back across borders made it feel like he was just around the corner. If that were truly the case, I would have dropped by and bought him a coffee or whisky a long time ago.
Emy's service is in a class of its own.

Gravitas Dinkey Cupronickel - Extra Fine

Let me start with addressing some complaints about this pen. Yes there is a copper smell, but everyone should know any pen with brass or copper in the body will have the smell. There are other materials available if you do not want the “coin” smell. This Cupronickel smells a lot LESS than any Kaweco brass pens.
My Dinkey has no problems posting, and the edges and threading are not sharp to me. The Dinkey is smaller than a Kaweco Sport, and has a better nib. Now my Kaweco Sports are cleaned out and sleeping in my pen case, retired.
There are not many reviews on the Gravitas Dinkey fountain pen. Good thing the Pen-Venture YouTube channel has a detailed review of the Dinkey. The Dinkey is a very compact pocket pen with an excellent #6 full size nib. I really like how the cap does NOT SCRATCH the barrel of the pen, so if you buy the Dinkey with any beautiful colors/materials, there will not be wear marks from capping the pen. I like the Cupronickel because since this pen will be in my pocket, there will be humidity and this metal alloy is very resistant to rusting.
If you are thinking about buying from Pen-Venture, be assured, this retailer is honest, has great communication, and I highly recommend.

Death trap improvement

I have 6 Gravitas pens now. I really want to like them, yet after 2 ergonomically pleasing but stubbornley leaking GP Pockets, my first Dinkey was the biggest disappointment: with the size of the Quark and the shape of the GP Pocket, I was hoping for this one to be the goldilocks FP, however, it proved to have the shortest life span of them all. The plastic inner sleeve, added as an improvement to protect the pen from scratches when posted, immediately got a 'fausse route' carved after posting then capping it for the first time. After capping it a few times to find 'the right groove', the section got unwound and is stuck inside it (along with the nib). Trying to het it out with a pair of pliers, is not a pleasant prospect, since that will only further damage the threads of the inner sleeve.
I guess the sleeve got bumped or warped when capping. That happened too easily. The pen is out of order in less than a week of use.
Great feel and format (5 stars), but suboptimal design, lacking in function (0 stars).

If the Monster and the Vac 1.0 had a Love Child...

...this would be it! To be completely honest, the Monster's DNA is clearly the dominant factor in this creation! As a matter of fact, it might be more accurate to call this pen the Baby Monster, instead of "Vac 2.0". There are only a few characteristics of the Vac 1.0 that were passed on, such as having an Ultem ink window on the secondary ink reservoir. Speaking of which, shouldn't the "Primary" ink reservoir be the one that connects directly to the nib unit? The back up, or reserve reservoir should be the "Secondary" reservoir, since it feeds the primary reservoir, not the nib unit, but...whatever. Other characteristics inherited from the Vac 1.0 are the conical finials on the cap and barrel, as well as a #6 size nib. Ink capacity of the Vac 2.0 is more than the Vac 1.0, but less than the Monster; at 4.5 ml, it's more than enough to get you through an all night session of writing, maybe even all week!
The nib...unlike other Gravitas nibs, doesn't have a breather hole, and the slit is longer. The metal also may be thinner than other Gravitas #6 nibs, which in combination with the longer slit, may give this nib a bit more flexibility. My nib is very smooth! Ink flow is a little bit less than the Monster's, but more than the Vac 1.0's, and is consistent and predictable with Pelikan 4001 Royal Blue ink.
Fun fact: the ink uptake hole (where ink goes into the pen when you fill it) is located on the underside of the feed, pretty close to where the feed disappears into the grip section. It's like that with almost every fountain pen that's designed to suck ink out of an ink well/bottle. The only one I know of that has the hole way forward toward the tip of the nib is the Lamy 2000. How does that affect you? The farther the nib sticks out from the grip section, the higher up that hole sits from the nib's tip, and the more ink needs to be in the bottom of the ink well to make sure that the pen sucks up ink, not air. The #6 nib sticks out about 7/8" (22mm), the #8 nib (of the Monster) sticks out about 17/16" (27mm). So, unless you plan on transferring your favorite ink into tall, thin ink bottles (like Robert Oster ink bottles), use an ink miser or ink sample bottle, or get creative with an ink syringe, the smaller sized nib of the Vac 2.0 allows you to get more ink out of your bottle before the rest becomes unreachable. With a little patience, practice, and an ample supply of paper towels, you can fill almost any piston filler or vac filler with an ink syringe as if the pen was an eyedropper filler, as long as you can remove the grip section and squirt the ink directly into the barrel. Some pens won't let you remove the grip section, but you can unscrew the nib unit, which will also give you direct access to the ink chamber(s). Vac fillers are more difficult to fill like that, because the piston has to be pushed all the way forward, and then retracted just far enough to allow ink to flow around and behind the piston to fill the ink chamber. If you were to fill it with the piston all the way in the back, you'd just expel all of the ink as soon as you push the piston forward again.
I love that Vac 2.0 has a second ink window, which lets me know when I need to open up the big ink chamber to allow ink to fill the little in chamber. I love the smaller nib, which allows me to better access to ink in bottles that are less than half full. I love how smooth the nib writes, and that the line width is actually pretty close to the nominal "Fine" standard (0.3mm, +/- 0.1mm). I love that the cap and pen body are now mated with titanium threaded parts, with ACME threads, so there isn't the constant feeling of cross threading the Ultem plastic, like every time I put the cap back on my Vac 1.0. I'm still careful whenever I screw the cap on any of my pens, regardless of material or brand, but I'm extra careful with threads on my non metal pens.
So, if like the Vac 1.0, you're going to love Vac 2.0, because I believe all of the Vac 1.0's shortcomings were addressed. If you thought you might like the Monster, but thought it's too big or pricey for you, the Vac 2.0 is the perfect fit. Still more ink capacity than most fountain pens, including many dedicated eyedropper pens, yet almost the same size as a regular full size pen. Robust construction, high quality materials, flawless fit and finish.

Excellent pen but be CAREFUL

Had the pen for three days and absolutely fell in love with it, it is smooth, writes instantly well, etc. Be careful though, the clip is stiff and wasn't grabbing well to my pocket, and when I bent over, it popped out, hit the floor and the barrel shattered. Very heartbroken.

Unmatched Customer Service

I purchased the Titanium Vac 2.0 as soon as it was announced, and I couldn't be happier with my decision. The pen itself is exceptional, but what truly sets the experience apart is the outstanding customer service that Emy and his team provide.

Before shipping, I asked Emy if he could check the nib for me, and he kindly did. The result was one of the best nibs in my collection—perhaps even the very best. It's clear that they genuinely care about delivering a great experience.

Emy also took the time to package everything with great care and included a personal handwritten note, which made the unboxing feel even more special.

Thank you, Emy and the entire team, for your dedication and passion. You don't just make incredible pens—you help share and grow this wonderful hobby with people around the world.
