The Sakura Nagare pen takes its name from the beautiful cherry blossoms specific to Japan, ”nagare” meaning ”stream or current”. 

Pieces of abalone shells are combined and applied by hand into a black resin ”stream” along the cap and body, highlighted by the gold backdrop.

The artist behind this pen, Todashi Nakamura, used a highly respected traditional Japanese hand applied decoration process to create a unique design. Made from lacquer, tiny flakes of colored enamel, mother of pearl and precious metal that are further sealed in place with a coat of laquer, no pen resembles the other.

The abalone pieces inserted in the black resin emulate the movement of water as it carries away the cherry blossoms, adding a textured element to the resins surface.
